Dream Speech
I Have a Dream
Good morning to my fellow
classmates, lecturers and the esteemed guests at large. My name is Khanyisile
Mthembu and I have a dream.
I have a dream—a dream that one
day I will finish school, that the chapters of my education will be written in
the ink of determination, perseverance, and growth. I have a dream that I will
not just walk across that stage with a degree in hand, but that I will stand
tall, knowing I have earned it through every struggle, every sleepless night,
and every challenge I have faced. And in that moment, I will look around and
feel my heart swell with pride, not just for the achievement, but for the
journey that got me there.
I have a dream that as I walk this
path, I will become the best version of myself—the version my mother always
hoped I would be. I can almost hear her voice, telling me to keep going,
telling me to push forward, even when the weight of the world feels too heavy
to bear. Though she is no longer here with me, I know she is watching from
heaven, smiling down, proud of the steps I am taking, the person I am becoming.
In my heart, I feel her love and her belief in me, guiding me, urging me to
keep going, to rise, to be everything I was meant to be.
I have a dream that my father, is
still with me—his spirit, his teachings, and the seeds he planted in me
continue to grow and blossom. He taught me to be strong, to be kind, to be
humble, and to never give up. And
now, as I continue to grow, I feel his pride in every moment of progress. He
believed in me. And I know that even from wherever he may be, he is watching
the seeds of his wisdom and love bloom into something beautiful.
But my dream doesn’t end with me.
I have a dream of making a difference in my community, of being a light in the
dark, a beacon of hope. I want to help the youth of tomorrow understand that
they have the power to be the change they wish to see in the world. I want them
to know that no matter where they come from, no matter the obstacles they face,
they can rise above it all. I want to be a mentor, a guide, someone who shows
them that greatness isn’t about where you start, but where you choose to go.
I have a dream that one day, the
youth I help today will rise up, lead with integrity, and make this world a
better place. I want to see them fight for justice, for kindness, for
opportunity, and for each other. I want them to know that the future isn’t something
that just happens—it’s something they create, with every choice they make,
every action they take.
So I stand here today, holding
onto this dream, knowing that I am on the journey to becoming the best version
of myself. I carry with me the love and wisdom of my mother and father. And I
carry with me the hope for a brighter tomorrow—a tomorrow built on the strength
of the youth, the strength of community, and the strength of knowing that no
dream is too big to achieve.
I have a dream. And I will see it
through.
